Members of the community and interested parties gathered in person and online for a Lincoln Community Coalition meeting April 23.
Minutes for the Feb. 27 meeting were approved. No meeting was held in March due to staff and board engagements.
Coalition Director Charlie Miller announced that the nonprofit has received its first grant award. The grant funds through SilverSummit are to be used toward a resource center.
Miller also noted that coalition staff have been meeting with a now 11-member Youth Coalition. The group is currently focusing on factors that may contribute to underage drinking and drug abuse.
Coalition staff members Hayley Gloeckner and Crystal Dineley have joined Miller in presenting training sessions, hosting workshops and preparing for upcoming community events.
On April 20, the Drug Take-Back Day prompted members of the public to drop off unused or expired medications. Coalition staff and officers of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office hosted stations at Great Basin Foods in Alamo and Caliente.
Other business included brief updates from subcommittees. The behavioral health subcommittee shared various available behavioral- and mental-health-related trainings. The trainings will be announced once dates and location can be confirmed.
The youth and community subcommittee update featured information on the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Servicing Lincoln County. The club now has 161 members. Site coordinator Rodney Balser detailed a successful Easter event and his hopes for the upcoming summer program.
An infrastructure subcommittee update highlighted pending plans for a grant information workshop. It was noted that a survey will be presented at the next Coalition meeting to determine priority areas of focus for the subcommittee.
Launa Chouquer with Lincoln County Workforce presented during the agency spotlight. Chouquer announced that starting July 1 the adult program will have $265,000 and the youth program will have $465,000 to be used toward training and work-based learning opportunities.
Workforce partners with local businesses and program participants to match business needs. Training includes CDL, phlebotomy, X-ray technician, cosmetology, dental assistant, computer science, culinary arts, plumbing and a long list of other categories.

The Lincoln Community Coalition meets at 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held in the conference room at the Panaca Town Hall.
