The Lincoln County Coalition held a regular monthly meeting at the Panaca Town Center Aug. 22. The meeting began at 10 a.m. with board members and interested parties joining in person, via phone and online.
Attendees discussed updates from recent and upcoming community efforts. Staff members of the Lincoln County Coalition shared plans for attending the Oct. 21 community health fair. The fair will include a car seat event and a drug takeback table with the Lincoln County Sheriff Office. Plans were also discussed for the Sept. 18 Medicare 101 presentation. The free informational session will begin at 1 p.m. in the Alamo Senior Center.
Fliers for the 9/11 Fun Run continue to be posted around the county. Events will take place on Sept. 9 in Alamo and Sept. 11 in Panaca. The fun run events will serve as a food and necessities drive for organizations that service the area.
Coalition staff also provided a recap on Lincoln County Fair and Rodeo participation. Hayley Gloeckner, Amber Pike and Crystal Dineley dedicated the majority of the fair weekend to facilitate substance misuse prevention games and hand out awareness literature. Some members of the public participated in the Wheel of Misfortune game highlighting choices that can lead to poor outcomes and habits. Staff also handed out Doterra drug deactivation bags and COVID-19 tests.
Event attendees were encouraged to sign up for the Aug. 24 lifesaving Naloxone training and the Living a Healthy Life with a Chronic Condition course created by Stanford University. The free training continues to be offered to both individuals and organizations at no cost. A Chronic Condition course will start Sept 19.
