The Lincoln County Coalition is excited to announce that the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows (BCGTM) has received funding to possibly open an after-school program in Lincoln County.
A Boys & Girls Club could open in Panaca as soon as this January.
This is an exciting opportunity, but before we begin the process of prepping a facility and hiring and training staff, we need community support.
We are seeking volunteers to form a Lincoln County Boys & Girls Club Committee, consisting of individuals willing to champion this effort throughout the area. Responsibilities will include meeting regularly with the BCGTM to move the program forward as well as coordinating outreach and fundraising efforts.
The Boys & Girls Club’s proven model has impacted youth throughout the state and nation in areas such as academic success, creativity, good character, and confidence. Its mission is “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”
Earlier this year, the Lincoln County Coalition sent out a parent survey to gauge the need for after-school programming in the community. The response we received showed a large number of households that would like a program available for their children. Since that time, the Coalition has been in talks with BCGTM, which successfully operates programs throughout Nevada, including in several rural communities. When a new funding source became available to expand after-school programs in Nevada, BCGTM included Lincoln County in its application, which was recently approved.
The Lincoln County club would be located at Meadow Valley Middle School, which has graciously offered dedicated space, and would be available for youth ages 6 to 18. A successful establishment of the Panaca location would lead to potentially opening more locations in the county.
If you are interested in joining the committee and helping us successfully launch a Boys & Girls Club in Lincoln County, please reach out to the Coalition by emailing contact@lccoalition.org. Please respond no later than Thursday, December 8.
