During a homeroom pep rally, the folks of the Lincoln County Coalition introduced the students of Lincoln County High School to their new ongoing monthly event: the LCHS Teen Night. This event, scheduled for March 31, is designed to give kids a fun and safe place to enjoy one another’s company and explore new and entertaining hobbies. As drug use continues to hurt the students of the various schools in Lincoln, as in many places throughout the country, the coalition hopes that by giving these kids a place to be themselves and enjoy their surroundings, they can cut back on the influence of drugs on the kids’ lives.
The event will be in the Lynx Lair in Panaca, but any kids who want to participate and don’t have access to transportation from Pioche and Caliente will have the opportunity to catch a ride through Lincoln County Human Services, which will be providing transportation for the evening. While a specific gathering place for rides has yet to be determined, they expect it to be somewhere relatively central so that everyone has a chance to participate.
Activities will include a Nerf war set up by Anderson Foam Works, a Dungeons and Dragons table, a variety of board games, an area for painting, and last but not least, a place for a tea party. While these events are fun in and of themselves, future activities may include things like integrating video games, jewelry making and shirt tie-dying.
The coalition is planning on doing two more teen nights just like this on April 28 and May 12. The teen night will start at 6 p.m. and run until 9 p.m.
Teen Nights will also be starting at Meadow Valley Middle School on April 7th.
